Module 8: Clinical Application of ATP and Patient Care

m8 banner

The eighth module of the Training Programme continues to explore the bench-to-bedside translational process of CAR-T therapy and the clinical aspects of both stem cell and gene therapy. With insights from both local and international experts, this module will further discuss the practical details in setting up CAR-T service as well as the bedside application of stem cell and gene therapy. As the development of advanced therapy in Hong Kong is still at its infancy stage, together with previous modules, this module is going to fill the knowledge and experience gaps to create a comprehensive and practical overview on advanced therapy from benchside to bedside. Learners will consolidate and advance their knowledge in the patient care of relevant services as well.

Learning Objectives:

By the end of this module, participants will be able to

  • Discuss and recognise the practical considerations in institutional set-up of CAR-T cell therapy servicey
  • Understand the clinical implementation and management of gene therapy
  • Explore the clinical application and patient journey of stem-cell therapy

Certification Requirements:

Please refer to our Programme Dashboard for details.

Bonus Session (Not Assessed)

The Unusual Case of a Rare Disease – Spinal Muscular Atrophy
Professor Rafael J. Yáñez-Muñoz
Director, Royal Holloway Centre of Gene and Cell Therapy

The first module of the Training Programme is designed to provide to participants a comprehensive and broad overview of the development of Advanced Therapy Products. Participants will learn about the scientific principles that underpin the evolution of ATP treatment. The module will cover the introductory concepts of manufacturing process of ATPs, characterisation, and potential applications concisely. By shedding light on the regulatory requirements for ATP-related operations, this module will also prepare participants for more advanced discussions in the subsequent module of the Training Programme.

Learning Objectives:
By the end of this module, participants will be able to

  • Demonstrate an understanding of different types of Advanced Therapy Products (ATPs)
  • Describe the differences between ATPs and conventional therapeutic products
  • Evaluate critically the immunological and pharmacological principles of ATPs
  • Understand the fundamental concepts of Good Manufacturing Practice operations
  • Discuss the challenges associated with development and manufacturing of ATPs
